Nate Loewentheil
Nate comes from a long line of entrepreneurs, dating back to his great-great grandfather Yale Brevda, who immigrated from Russia to the U.S. in 1906 fleeing persecution and founded a manufacturing concern based in Brooklyn, NY. Carrying on his family’s tradition, Nate joined his first start-up at the age of 18. At 19, Nate founded the Roosevelt Network, which he grew into the largest student organization in the U.S. In his mid-20s, while at Yale Law School, Nate started investing in real estate and in early-stage technology companies, making angel investments in companies like Roivant, now a $4 billion publicly traded pharmaceutical company (NASDAQ: ROIV).
In 2021, after more than a decade of angel and venture investing, Nate launched his own VC firm, Commonweal Ventures. CWV invests in early-stage technology companies advancing a sustainable economy, upgrading transportation and infrastructure systems, and revitalizing the urban environment.
In addition to his work as an investor, Nate has engaged at the highest levels of government and politics. From 2013 to 2017, Nate served at the National Economic Council in the Obama White House, where he led President Obama’s work on emerging technology, clean energy finance, transportation, and infrastructure. Nate also played a major role in Biden’s successful presidential campaign, shaping infrastructure and small business policy and serving on Biden’s National Finance Committee. Nate hold both a BA and JD from Yale University, where he teaches an undergraduate seminar on how technology shapes the American city.
