
Matt Enstice
Matt is the president and CEO of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, Inc., an organization that has spearheaded Buffalo’s revitalization for over 20 years, serving more than 1.5 million patients annually. With a relentless commitment to fostering innovation and driving economic development for all, Enstice has played a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of Western New York’s award-winning innovation district and its healthcare and research hub.
Enstice spent his early career in LA and New York, working in the entertainment industry for Broadway Pictures and with Lorne Michaels at Saturday Night Live, where he experienced the transformative power of collaboration in fostering new thinking and ideas. He returned to Buffalo in 2002 to lead a new kind of collaboration in the city, bringing organizations and institutional stakeholders—who traditionally were competitors—together as partners to realize the vision for the BNMC. In 2010, Enstice established the BNMC Innovation Center in Buffalo to catalyze startup company growth and connections to facilitate knowledge-sharing that drives progress and innovation.
Throughout the BNMC district and innovation ecosystem evolution, Enstice has foregrounded smart economic, social, and environmental development, prioritizing health and well-being and sustainability. His work in this arena has received several awards, including Northeast Economic Development Association Program of the Year (2007), Global Workspace Most Innovative Space (2010), Hauptmann Woodward Outstanding Service Award (2012), Association of University Research Parks Outstanding Park (2012), and the National Grid Innovation Award.
Enstice completed his undergraduate degree at Hobart and William Smith Colleges and earned his MBA at Canisius College. He serves as a member of the Steering Committee of the Global Institute of Innovation Districts and on the boards of the Buffalo Renaissance Foundation, the National Grid Advisory Board, Viridi Parente, the Buffalo Niagara Partnership, the President’s Council of Niagara University, and the Zeron Foundation. Enstice is the author of City Forward: How Innovation Districts Can Embrace Risk and Strengthen Community (Island Press, 2022).
